Harmonic Media is known for delivering on our promises and for keeping our customers happy. Just take a look at our Google Reviews — five stars across the board, baby! When it comes to print production, we don’t just go through the motions. We are passionate about what we do and committed to getting results for our clients. That’s why we are expanding our graphic design department! If you thought our graphic printing solutions were impressive before, just wait until you see what we will be capable of creating now.
Jace Orio, our Design Manager, is all about setting the standards higher. Things like being good enough, status quo or average is not in his DNA (which is one of the many reasons he fits in so well with the Harmonic family). We all have that desire for perfectionism coursing through our veins.
An Insightful Interview With Jace
In between training our new hire, managing multiple design projects and making sure everything looks stellar, Jace was kind enough to sit down with us and answer some questions. It’s like a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at all the exciting things going on at Harmonic.
First we had the big move. And now, staying true to our growth mindset, we are enhancing our design capabilities. After a few sips (more like cups) of coffee, Jace was ready to spill all the deets.
1. What excites you the most about expanding the design department?
Being able to take on new design specific projects that we may have not had the bandwidth to handle before. With us expanding and growing this department we will be able to say yes to all of the exciting challenges clients throw our way!
2. What are some of the (new) design specific services Harmonic media will be able to offer with this expansion?
Now we will be able to offer services like:
Brand Design - Brand Strategy, Brand Identity and Systems, Brand Guidelines
Print Design - Packaging Design, Collateral Design, Illustration
Web and Digital - Presentation Graphics, Social Media Graphics, Digital Ads
3. Why do you think design is so important for the success of a business?
Design is everywhere from the social media graphics we look at on our phones to the packaging of the products we purchase at the grocery store. Design can be a huge factor in determining what customers purchase or don’t purchase. Dare I say it’s equally (and sometimes more) important than the actual product or service you’re selling.
A company with a horrible website will turn away potential customers in an instant. People think to themselves: If this business can’t handle designing their own website, how can they possibly do a good job meeting my needs? Making a great first impression is crucial and having a high caliber design department on your side can make that first impression a positive, lasting one.
4. What would you say to someone who is debating whether or not it’s worth it to hire a professional designer?
It really depends on the circumstances of the project. However, I would give people a fair warning that you get what you pay for. It may sound cliche, but it’s the truth. There are a lot of web design programs out there with cheap templates and tools that will create a logo for $5.
But don’t be surprised when your website doesn’t look that impressive, lacks in functionality or leaves much to be desired when it comes to user experience. And your logo will likely look like a $5 logo so don’t expect to gain compliments or credibility from consumers.
People tend to turn their nose up and look elsewhere if they think the design cost seems too high. What they tend to overlook is that designers are charging for their expertise and knowledge, not just the service. For example, you wouldn’t go to Mcdonald’s expecting a Michelin star meal for the price you’re paying. The same mentality should apply when it comes to design.
Presenting a brand consistently across all platforms can increase revenue by up to 23 percent.
5. What is one the projects you are most proud of and/or that got amazing results?
One of the projects I hold near and dear to my heart that got tons of attention involved branding for a new construction company. Harmonic was able to create a brand identity and system that helped set them up for success on the front end.
As the company continued to grow, we translated the branding we created to several different applications such as signs, business cards, social graphics, banners, stickers and more. Seeing how we could play an important role in helping a business start off on the right foot and fostering their growth into something bigger and better was very rewarding!
